When the effects of climate change threaten the affluent Miami Beach, FL area, developers seek higher ground, but the only area outside the floodplains is the historically Black community of Liberty City. Promising to bring economic growth to a long-underserved community, developers start to enact their vision by renovating the public housing at the city’s center, but the Liberty Square residents quickly learn that investors’ vision of progress may cause their displacement and permanently alter the fabric of the broader city. Beautifully shot, thoughtful, and intimate, Razing Liberty Square profiles a transitioning working-class community whose residents' definition of progress diverges dramatically with city officials and investors.
