Shadowland

The ultimate road trip, to a thousand destinations, for one unforgettable exhibition. In 2013, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art’s curatorial team hit the road to investigate what’s happening in American art today. Over the course of a year, the team logged more than 100,000 miles, crisscrossing the United States to visit nearly 1,000 artists whose work had not yet been fully recognized on a national level.

The result of this unprecedented journey was a one-of-a-kind exhibition, State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now, featuring 102 artists and 227 artworks. On view at Crystal Bridges from September 13, 2014 - January 19, 2015, the exhibition will be hitting the road in 2016-17 to wow new audiences. Come along as filmmakers Craig and Brent Renaud share the stories of some of the artists involved in this groundbreaking exhibition.

From the team behind the Peabody Award winning Last Chance High, comes SHELTER: a feature length documentary following a year in the life of homeless youth in New Orleans. 

At the Covenant House, located on the outskirts of the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana, the doors never close, and there is always room for one more. On any given day, a constant stream of young people carrying everything they own in plastic garbage bags fills the courtyard. The prospective residents are just teenagers, but have already been labeled drug addicts, schizophrenics, criminals and outcasts. As one staff member puts it, “the most damaged population of youth that exists in society today”. Filming over the course of a full year, brothers Brent and Craig Renaud tell the raw and emotional stories of the incredible kids who seek shelter at the Covenant House, and the staff struggling to work miracles everyday on their behalf. In theaters 2017.

A new docuseries about Black women, beauty and identity through the distinctive lens of Black hair. From executive producers Tracee Ellis Ross and Michaela Angela Davis, “The Hair Tales” will lead the audience through a revelatory journey of connecting the personal tales of phenomenal Black women to broader societal and historic themes. The stories shared in the series offer an honest and layered look into the complex culture of Black hair and ultimately Black women’s identity, creativity and contributions to society. Featuring stories from Oprah Winfrey, Issa Rae, Chlöe Bailey, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Marsai Martin and Chika.
